“There is no problem too large for government to solve.” – Zoran Mamdani last week, in his speech upon winning the election for mayor of New York City. If those words give you the creeps, they should.
“There is no problem too large for government to solve.” – Joseph Stalin in 1932, on the brink of starving millions of recalcitrant Ukrainians to death in the Holodomor.
“There is no problem too large for government to solve.” – Adolf Hitler in 1938, on the eve of Kristallnacht which initiated the Holocaust, ultimately killing millions of Jews before the Allies ended the slaughter in 1945 when Germany surrendered.
“There is no problem too large for government to solve.” – Mao Tse-Tung in 1966 as he inititiated the Cultural Revolution which featured struggle sessions, the turning of children against their parents, and brutal police actions which killed millions of Chinese before it was ended by Mao’s death in 1976.
“There is no problem too large for government to solve.” – Pol Pot in 1975, as he instituted the “Killing Fields” mirroring Mao’s crackdowns in China, leading to the deaths and disposal in mass graves of over a million Cambodians.

The problem is, when a government cannot convince the people to follow its lead, it always has the option of killing them. Mark and parse Mamdani’s words carefully. They are inspired by the example of those who came before him.
If you are a New York Jew or capitalist, a Christian or any other who values America’s freedoms, it would be prudent to take the first train out before the fare is free.
